Fight fans will at long last get a chance to watch former national standout Eric Canoy?s battle for the WBO Oriental featherweight title against Tanzania?s Rajabu Maoja before a sellout crowd of over 10,000 fans at the air-conditioned Zamboanga City Coliseum.

It was an amazing reflection of the tremendous support for boxing by the people of Mindanao following the 6,000 fans who watched the WBO Youth Championship won by Ciso ?Kid Terrible? in Tubod, Zamboanga del Norte last February 9.

Pre-empted by a special program last Sunday, the Canoy-Majabu title fight will be telecast at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday over IBC 13, sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum.

The fight card was promoted by outstanding congressman and supporter of sports Erbie Fabian in cooperation with well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani and covered by Viva Sports for its top-rated weekly boxing show which is also replayed on Viva Sports. Viva Hot Babe Carla Samonte who served as round girl was a big hit with the fans who included Mayor Celso Lobregat and other distinguished local officials and business and civic leaders of Zamboanga City.

Canoy who in his amateur career beat Somlak Kamsing, Thailand?s first Olympic gold medalist went into the fight with an undefeated record of 6-0 with 4 knockouts.

The referee for the title fight was respected international referee Bruce McTavish.
