FIDE Online Rapid World Cup: Buto, Cu falter, Arca wins

MANILA, Philippines---National Master Al-Basher Buto of the Philippines bowed to his Malaysian opponent in the eight round of the FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth - Open 12 and under online chess championship virtually held at Tornelo Platform.

Buto yielded to Ern Jie Anderson after 45 moves of Tarrash defense in Tuesday's 8th round. Buto (5.5 points), the pride of Faith Christian School in Cainta, Rizal province dropped into a tie for 21st to 36th places. Buto earlier brought down Akshay Borgaonkar of India in Monday's sixth round in the 200-player's field World Chess Federation-FIDE tournament.

National Master Ivan Travis Cu lost to Emir Sharshenbekov of Kyrgyzstan and CM Sauat Nurgaliyev of Kazakhstan, respectively.
With the loss, the San Juan City bet Cu was stuck at 5 points and dropped into a tie for 37th to 60th place.

Another Filipino entry National Master Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca was beaten by Thota Dhruva of India in the 7th round but bounced back by crushing Hans-Georg Hansel of Estonia in the 8th round.

With the win, the Panabo City, Davao del Norte Arca improved his total to 4.5 points, a good for a tie 61st-79th place.

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), headed by President/Chairman Rep. Prospero “Butch” Arreza Pichay Jr., is supporting the campaign of the triumvirate Buto, Cu and Arca as part of its continuing program to train and develop outstanding young players.-Marlon Bernardino-
