
Arca, Buto off to good start in FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth - O12

MANILA, Philippines---National Masters Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca and Al Basher Buto of the Philippines waylaid their respective foes to jump-start their bids in the FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth - Open 12 and under virtually held at Tornelo Platform on August 6 and 7, 2021.
The youngest online Arena Grandmaster (AGM) in the Philippines from Panabo City, Davao del Norte native Arca subdued Prasanna Lokesh Chandankhede of Ghana in the first round then toppled Nikoloz Kachakhidze of Georgia in the second round while the Cainta, Rizal province resident Buto dismantled Alessandro Jair Cardenas Huachaca of Peru and Chenwu Zhu of the Netherlands, respectively.
However, the San Juan City bet Ivan Travis Cu yielded to Edgar Mamedov of Kazakhstan in the second round. He beat Gerelmaa Chuluunbaatar of Mongolia in the opening round.
Meanwhile, National Master Oshrie Jhames Constantino Reyes of Santa Rita, Pampanga scored 6.5 pts out of 10 rounds with 6 Wins, 3 Losses and 1 Draw. His final rank is 34th out of 227 participants from more than 100 Countries in the Open 10 and under.
Other young Filipino athletes seeing in action are Christian Tolosa of Imus City, Cavite (48th place, Open 10 and under), Phil Martin Casiguran of Caloocan City (77th place, Open 10 and under), Mary Joy Tan of Cagayan de Oro City (24th place, Girls 18 and under), Woman Candidate Master Alexandra Sydney Paez of Cabuyao City, Laguna (42nd place, Girls 18 and under) and Marphine Faith Mangubat of Cebu (62nd place, Girls 18 and under).-Marlon Bernardino-
