BOXING SCENE ELEVATES PACQUIAO TO NO. 1 WITH MAYWEATHER

The respected internet site Boxing Scene has elevated Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao to No.1 in its pound-for-pound list alongside undefeated Floyd Mayweather despite the fact that boxing writer Cliff Rold even admitted having Juan Manuel Marquez ?edging Pacquiao out? in their rematch last Sunday, Manila Time.

Rold who is a member of Ring Magazine?s ratings advisory panel and the Boxing Writers Association of America however noted that ?with two fighters that good and that close, the official verdict must stand.?

Boxing Scene said that ?no matter how you slice it? Pacquiao was a ?fighter for the ages? being the only boxer to win WBC world titles at 112 and 130 pounds and with the 122 IBF super bantamweight title in-between Pacquiao was ?the only one to pull off that hat-trick.?

Rold said ?Pacquiao?s blend of scale climbing and pressure fighting is as close to Henry Armstrong as today?s fans may ever get.? He reminded fight fans that Pacquiao had beaten Mexican legends Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales who are ?locks for the Hall of Fame? as well as Marquez who he said, ?merits strong consideration based on aesthetic evidence.?

Now Pacquiao heads up the scale in pursuit of a potential record fourth legitimate world title and will have to beat a solid contender and titlist David Diaz and, Rold maintains ?will be favored to do so.? This means that Pacquiao who started his career at 108 pounds has ?crossed a threshold of eight current and four classic weight classes and has improved along the way? wrote Rold.

The Pacquiao piece concluded, ?depending on what comes after and if he defeats Diaz, Pacquiao could easily have this spot (No.1 on Pound-for-Pound) to himself by the end of the year."
