Marticio wins Asian Schools Chess Championships

Final Standings: Under-15 Girls Division
Champion: Woman National Master Jersey Marticio of the Philippines (7.5/9)
2nd Place: Saravanan Nithyashree of India A (7/9)
3rd Place: Woman Fide Master Kai Ni Agnes Chong of Malaysia (6.5/9)

MANILA, Philippines – Woman National Master Jersey Marticio of Cabuyao City, Laguna pocketed the top honors in the Asian Schools Chess Championships Under-15 Girls Division held online at Tornelo Platform last Sunday, July 25, 2021.

The 14-year-old Marticio, an incoming Grade 9 student of Pulo National High School, Cabuyao City, Laguna, collected 7.5 points on seven wins, one draw and one loss to win the nine-round tournament.

Marticio whose stint was being supported by Cabuyao City mayor Atty. Rommel "Mel" Gecolea, Sports Director of Cabuyao City Mr. Jerome Paul Lualhati, Cabuyao City Chess Committee Head and President of the Philippine Executive Chess Association Dr. Fred Paez, scored victories over WCM Khishigbaatar Bayasgalan of Mongolia in the first round, Atena Johori of Iran B in the second round, WCM Bayanmunkh Amin-Erdene of Mongolia in the third round , WCM KM Dahamdi Sanudula of Sri Lanka in the fourth round, Tanisha S Boramanikar of India A in the sixth round, AGM Renganayaki V of India A in the seventh round and Saravanan Nithyashree of India A in the ninth and final round.
She split the point with Swetha Thamil Manni of Malaysia in the eight and penultimate round. She loss to WFM Kai Ni Agnes Chong of Malaysia in the fifth round.

Tournament Director was NCFP CEO (chief executive officer) GM Jayson Gonzales while IA Reden Cruz was the Chief Arbiter.-Marlon Bernardino-
