Paez, Marticio, Regidor off to good start in Asian Schools Chess Championships

MANILA, Philippines –Woman Candidate Master Alexandra Sydney Paez and Woman National Master Jersey Marticio of Cabuyao City, Laguna and Woman National Master Kaye Lalaine Regidor of Santa Rosa City, Laguna got off to a blazing start by posting victories in the third round of the Asian Schools Chess Championships held online at Tornelo Platform on Saturday, July 24, 2021.
The 17 years old Paez, an online Arena International Master, a Grade 12 student of Malayan College of Laguna defeated Motahareh Talaneh of Iran B in the third round after 38 moves of Double Fianchetto Opening to remain on top in the Under 17-Girls Division who totes perfect 3 points in this 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment time control format.
Paez, earlier beat Kimia Hamed Hajipour of Iran B in the first round and Navisa Goudarzi of Iran A in the second round.
"I hope to do well in this prestigious event," said Paez, playing under the banner of Cabuyao City mayor Atty. Rommel "Mel" Gecolea, who is fresh from a runner-up finish in the 2021 Hybrid National Youth & School Chess Championships (Under 18 - Girls) last June 22 to 29, 2021.
The 14 years old Marticio, on the other hand, an Incoming Grade 9 student of Pulo National High School, Cabuyao City, Laguna, subdued WCM Bayanmunkh Amin-Erdene of Mongolia in the third round to post her third straight win in as many rounds in the Under 15-Girls Division.
Marticio, who won twice runner-up place in the 2021 Hybrid National Youth & School Chess Championships (Under 14 and Under 15 Girls) also crushed WCM Khishigbaatar Bayasgalan of Mongolia in the first round and Atena Johori of Iran B in the second round.
Paez and Marticio, both local and international chess campaign being supported by Cabuyao City Mayor Atty. Rommel "Mel" Gecolea.
The 12-year-old Regidor, a Grade 6 student of Rizal Dila Elementary School Santa Rosa City, Laguna, meantime trounced Rikka Mitsuyama after 48 moves of Queens Pawn Game to notch her third straight victories in the Under 13-Girls Division.
Regidor, the champion in the Under 12-Girls 2021 Hybrid National Age Group Chess Championships Grandfinals also toppled H Sandithi Kusalya Alwis of Sri Lanka B in the first round and Qobiali Massah of Syria in the second round.
