Former world minimum weight challenger Eriberto "Yukka" Gejon has dropped a ten round split decision to Japan?s Yuji Kanemitsu in a fight card at the IMP Hall in Osaka, Japan.
Two judges favored Kanemitsu by scores of 97-94 and 96-95 while the third judge had Gejon winning by a 98-95 margin.
A report from Osaka said Gejon used his height and reach advantage to catch the Japanese with stinging jabs although he suffered a cut over his eyebrow in the third round due to an accidental head-butt as Kanemitsu pushed forward aggressively. There were many in the stadium who felt that Gejon was denied a victory he deserved.
The lanky Gejon who is managed by Rex "Wakee" Salud dropped to No. 11 in the WBA rankings after a series of losses while Kanemitsu, the 23 year old Japanese is currently ranked No. 10 by the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation.
With the loss the 28 year old Gejon dropped to 23-4-1 with 14 knockouts while Kanemitsu improved to 11-1 with 6 knockouts.
Gejon who has now lost his last three fights was striving to redeem himself after a first round knockout last November at the hands of undefeated Roman Gonzalez last November also in Japan.
