Fremont, California
There is a shining light at the end of the tunnel (in the age of Covid-19) for the Macasaet family - Thomas Matthew (dad), Cindy (mom) and sisters Grace and Jasmine, grandparents Sonia & the late Teofilo Macasaet (of Fremont by way of Indiana) and Lolita & Oscar Macaranas (of San Jose).
His name is Nathan James Macasaet.
The new grad- a basketball, badminton, chess enthusiast and a fan of the Indiana Pacers-finished high school with honors- is looking forward to a challenging and rewarding course in EECS-Electronics Engineering and Computer Science this fall at the prestigious University of California at Berkeley(est. 1868), College of Engineering (est. 1931) - considered one of the most prestigious engineering schools in the world, ranked third by U.S. News & World Report and with an acceptance rate of 9%.

Nathan’s scholastic achievement and aptitude shone at an early age.
When he was three years old, he memorized and recited the state capitals of all fifty states of the United States of America; a feat 99% of Americans (myself included), cannot duplicate without relying on the internet.
Cal Berkeley’s motto reads Fiat lux in Latin---Let there be light, according to Google Translate.
The future indeed seems a lot brighter with someone like Nathan James Macasaet.
On behalf of your dad’s colleagues at Washington Township hospital and friends at PhilBoxing.com and PinoyGreats.com, by way of our editor-in-chief Mr. Dong Secuya…
Congratulations, Nathan!
May you find joy and happiness in the world of academia, particularly engineering and computer science.
As your proud parents say, “Success is not celebrated from crossing the finish line, but by appreciating each step it took to get there.”

Saint Malo, first described by Lafcadio Hearn for Harper’s Weekly (March 31, 1883), was the largest fishing village on Lake Borne comprised of about 150 Filipino fishermen, whose direct descendants (known then as Manila men) developed the Filipino fishing and trading community of Manila Village in Louisiana.
