
GM Joey Antonio leads field in online chess tourney

13-time Philippine Open Champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. will be the man to beat in the Fidaire Online Chess Tournament gets underway on April 24, 2021 at lichess.org.
The 59-year-old Quezon City-based Antonio is one of the winningest Filipino players in the free registration online chess tournament, hosted by United States based Woman National Master Cristina Santos-Fidaire, who hails from Tayuman, Tondo, Manila , a former World Chess Olympiad member.
Challenging Antonio are International Masters Angelo Young and Michael Concio Jr., Fide Masters Robert Suelo Jr. and Roel Abelgas, National Masters Nicomedes Alisangco, Gerardo Cabellon, Nick Nisperos and Jonathan Tan.
The 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment time control format aim to help the development of chess among young people.
The champion will receive P800 while the second P700, third P600, fourth P500 and fifth P400. Sixth to Tenth will each earn P300 while 11th to 20th will receive P250 each.-Marlon Bernardino-
