
Buto, Tisado register podium finishes in PSC-NCFP chess tiff

Al Basher "Basty" Buto of Cainta, Rizal and Janmyl Tisado of General Trias City, Cavite continue to reap honors as they finished first and second in the PSC-NCFP Selection - Luzon Leg Elimination for Men's Chess Championships online tournament Thursday at tornelo.com.
The 11-year-old Buto, a grade five pupil of Faith Christian School in Cainta, Rizal, whose stint here is being supported by Sen. Ping Lacson, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Mayor Saidamen Amer Adiong and Queen Iyad, collected 8 points on eight wins and one loss in nine outings to go home with the title in the 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment rapid time control format.
On the other hand, 15-year-old Tisado, a grade 10 student of Academy of Saint John - La Salle Greenhills Supervised, playing under the banner of General Trias City Chess Club under the guidance of coach Ederwin Estavillo and Rep. Jon-Jon Ferrer, ended up in a two-player tie for second with 7.5 points but wound up with the highest tiebreak score to claim the No. 2 spot.
Also with 7.5 points is Nezil Arj Magnaye Merilles of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro who placed 3rd overall because of lower tie break points.
Buto’s victories came against Jose Piro Caro, Joemel Narzabal, Marlon Constantino, Alfredo Balquin Jr., Juan Samson Guillermo Cantela, Jerish John Velarde, Mark James Marcellana and Tisado while only loss at the hands of Joseph Mendoza II.
Tisado's meantime scored victories over Christian Borlaza, Robert Michael Tampus, Geonard Aldave, Joseph Navarro, Ivan Travis Cu, Merilles, Hans Ezekiel Olorosisimo before losing to Buto. His draw came in games against Mark James Marcellana.
Rounding up to the top 10 were Marcellana (4th), Cu (5th), Adrian Basilgo (6th), Daniel John Lemi (7th), Israel Landicho (8th) Cedric Daniel Macato (9th) and Jan Darryl Batula (10th).
Tournament director is GM Jayson Gonzales assisted by Chief Arbiter IA Reden Cruz and Deputy Chief Arbiter FA Rudy Ibanez.-Marlon Bernardino-
