More than a year since getting back in the Ring Magazine's exclusive top ten pound for pound fighters list, Manny Pacquiao finds himself out again.
This is due to the combination of his continued inactivity and Teofimo Lopez's recent excellent though unexpected victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko in their four titles unification bout at lightweight.
Pacquiao has not fought since July of 2019 when he won the WBA welterweight super championship by decision over then undefeated defending titlist Keith Thurman. The win propelled him back to the Ring pound for pound ranking at number ten, the position he held since until the latest listing.
Meanwhile Teofimo Lopez barged into the elite list for the first time at number six with his unanimous decision victory over Lomachenko who remained in the ranking but down at number seven, four spots below his former rating in the previous pound for pound reckonings.
The Ring top ten pound for pound fighters are as follows:
1. Saul Canelo Alvarez, Mexico
2. Naoya Inoue, Japan
3. Terrence Crawford, USA
4. Oleksandr Usyk, Ukraine
5. Errol Spence, USA
6. Teofimo Lopez, USA
7. Vasily Lomachenko, Ukraine
8. Gennady Golovkin, Kazakhstan
9. Juan Francisco Estrada, Mexico
10. Artur Beterbiev, Russia
Surprisingly, Tyson Fury of the UK who stopped American Deontay Wilder to win the WBC heavyweight crown early this year was also not in the list.
As a sort of consolation, Pacquiao retained his #3 ranking in the welterweight division.
Ten other Filipino fighters are included in the Ring divisional rankings led by former multi division titlist Nonito Donaire who is listed as number one in the bantamweight class behind WBA-IBF unified champion and Ring and lineal world titlist Naoya Inoue.
Donaire is set to meet Ring #2 Nordine Oubaali of France for the latter's WBC belt in December 12 in the USA.
Compatriot WBO bantamweight champion Johnriel Casimero is listed #3 by the Ring in its bantamweight ranking which also included another Pinoy campaigner Mike Plania at #10.
Other Pinoy fighters who made it in the Ring ratings are Vic Saludar, WBO beltholder Pedro Taduran and Melvin Jerusalem, #5, #7 and #10 respectively at munimumweight; Edward Heno, #7 at light flyweight; Geimel Magramo, #8 at flyweight; IBF champion Jerwin Ancajas, #5 at superflyweight; and Mark Magsayo, #5 at featherweight.
Ancajas is set to defend his IBF world title against Mexican mandatory challenger Javier Rodriguez later this year.
Magramo is set to meet Ring #7 Junto Nakatani for the vacant WBO flyweight title in Tokyo next month.
Ring unrated Filipino fighter Jason Mama is also reported to challenge Ring #2 and IBF flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane in South Africa this December.
