NBA -- Melo "prays" to stay in Portland

PORTLAND -- Now that his team's season has ended, extinguished out of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers in five games, Portland Trail Blazers guard Carmelo Anthony recently contemplated on the future of his now-resurgent NBA career.

Given how he had performed in the NBA bubble in Orlando, where he turned heads by averaging 15.3 points a game while hitting 42.1 percent from 3-point deep, the options could be varying for the 36-year old former 10-time All-Star.

As tantalizing those choices may be, the former New York Knick would rather be where he is right now.

"I pray that it can be Portland," the 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward told CBS Sports.

"Honestly, I think I've found a home in Portland. I got comfortable with the organization. I got comfortable with the guys on the team, they got comfortable with me, and at this point in my career I do think that that's the best situation, especially having this experience now and kind of just getting my feet wet and just coming in and being who I am and staying true to myself."

Hopefully, the chips would fall in a way where Melo gets his wish. If not, what a fantastic ride it was in Portland.

After being away from the NBA for over a year, the Blazers took a chance on Melo and signed him to one-year non-guaranteed contract worth $2,159,029 last November 19, 2019.

The gamble paid off handsomely as Anthony appeared in 58 regular season games where he averaged 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per. He was just as terrific in the playoffs, clocking in 15.2 points in five outings.
