Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain, determined to resolve the contractual dispute involving IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes, has called for a meeting with the champion?s family and lawyers as well as boxing manager Aljoe Jaro whose wife is the registered manager of Condes.
Charges and counter-charges involving money matters have flown thick and fast in the past with Condes claiming he was short-changed of his due while a contractual complication arose after Aljoe Jaro signed up with American Dante Ortiz as co-manager and took $10,000.
Buhain called for the settlement meeting on Friday even as Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao indicated his interest in handling the career of the IBF champion and has reportedly offered to ?buy-out? Ortiz for $20,000 in order that Condes can defend his title.
IBF Championship Committee chairman Lindsey Tucker earlier informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that Condes would have to defend his title against the winner of an eliminator between Raul Garcia of Mexico and Ronald Barrera of Columbia which was scheduled for February 29 but as of press time there was no word on the result of that bout where Garcia was favored.
Condes? business manager Rod Nazario who met with Buhain recently has formalized an offer to promote the Condes title defense in Manila and has offered the champion $50,000 and the challenger $25,000 with the usual number of round trip plane tickets and other perks. However, Nazario made it clear his offer was good only if the various contractual and promotional problems are resolved.
Condes meantime continues to train in a Cainta Gym and also spars twice-a-week at the Tiger City Gym of Jay San Pedro in Mandaluyong. The champion has recovered fully from a badly sprained wrist and a back problem and is eager to defend his title before hometown fans.
Should the winner of the Garcia-Barrera bout refuse to accept the Philippine offer put forward by Nazario, then it will go to a purse bid.
