DONAIRE BUCKLES DOWN TO WORK

IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire has buckled down to serious work after an apparently fun-filled visit to the Philippines with his girlfriend and taekwondo jin Rachael Marcial which saw him bloat to over 130 pounds.

Nonito?s elder brother Glenn ?The Filipino Bomber? Donaire who won a unanimous eight round decision in a bloody fight against Brazil?s 2000 Sydney Olympian Jose Albuquerque said Nonito was training with his father/trainer Nonito Donaire Sr since his return to the US and ?is getting better and is really strong.?

Glenn noted that his brother?s opponent in the April 18 fight card in Dubai, Australia?s Hussein Hussein was ?a really good fighter and he?s tough.? However, the elder Donaire who dropped down from flyweight and fought Albuquerque as a light flyweight said ?I am not worried (about his weight) because when my brother and I train with my dad we really train.?

The manager of the Donaire brothers Cameron Dunkin has lined up a roster of sparring partners for Nonito in Las Vegas, prompting Glenn to confidently predict ?when he fights he will be one hundred percent.?

There have been some questions raised as to why Nonito Donaire who himself had said that training at the famed ALA Gym in preparation for his last title defense against Luis Maldonado was great and he had a number of excellent sparring partners including Z ?The Dream? Gorres and Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista, decided to train in Las Vegas where there is clearly a shortage of sparring partners in the lighter weight categories.

The word is that Dunkin was bringing in some Mexican fighters to sharpen Donaire in his preparation for the fight. Both Nonito and his father/trainer do not concentrate on lots of sparring but would rather work on conditioning and fight strategy which has proved extremely successful in the past.
