Carlos Monzon and Jake LaMotta went the distance in Thursday’s last quarter-final of the ‘eWBSS Middleweight Legends Tournament’ shown on World Boxing Super Series Facebook.
After a week of knockouts ‘Shotgun’ Monzon and ‘Raging Bull’ LaMotta went all 12 rounds in a closely fought battle simulated on EA Sports ‘Fight Night Champion’. The three judges scored it 115-112, 114-113, 115-113 in favour of Monzon, who rose from a 9th round knockdown and proceeds to face Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright in Saturday’s semi-final.
Monzon dominated the first part of the quarter-final, and LaMotta was forced to struggle with a cut under his left eye. LaMotta from The Bronx – known for his incredible chin and fighting spirit – got a grip on the fight from the 6th and in the 8th, he scored a knockdown with an overhand right as Monzon smacked into the canvas. It took a few rounds for the Argentinian to break free of LaMotta’s swarming attacks, but a strong finish in the championship rounds secured him the victory.
The ‘eWBSS Middleweight Legends Tournament’ enters its exciting semi-final stage tomorrow with Sugar Ray Robinson vs Marvelous Marvin Hagler at 7pm (UK) on World Boxing Super Series Facebook.
