Marcial.
Already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, Eumir Felix Marcial improved further his standing and record while exacting some measure of revenge for his fallen fellow Pinoy fighters by defeating Ashish Kumar of India by majority decision in the middleweight semi finals of the ongoing Asia-Oceania qualifiers in Amman, Jordan.
Marcial who has a walkover win over Kumar last year, proved he was superior to the Indian in their first actual ring meeting by outpunching and outworking his rival. In the process, he exacted a measure of revenge for Carlo Paalam and Riza Pasuit who lost to their Indian foes Monday.
He will meet Abilkhan Amankul of Kazakhstan in the finals today. Amankul defeated China's Toutehebierke Tanglatihan in the other semis.
Meanwhile Carlo Paalam and Irish Magno try to earn their respective Olympic spots in the men's and women's flyweight divisions in the scheduled box offs for the remaining slots allotted for the Asia Oceania region.
Paalam who lost to Indian ace Amit Panghal will face Kazakh Saken Bibossinov in one of the box offs in the flyweight class.
Bibossinov lost in the quarterfinals to young Thai tournament sensation Thitisan Panmod.
The 19 year old Panmod continued making waves by defeating world champion Shakhobodin Zoirov of Uzbekistan in the flyweight semi finals also yesterday. He will face Jinguang Hu of China, winner over Amit Panghal in the flyweight finals.
Magno will tangle with Sumaiya Kosimova of Tajikhistan in one of the box offs for the two remaining qualifying slots in the women's flyweight division.
Magno lost to Shih Wu Yi of Chinese Taipei and Kosimova to Yuan Chang of China in their respective quarterfinal assignments.
Women's featherweight Nesthy Petecio who was eliminated yesterday by her former world championship victim Sena Irie of Japan still has a chance to earn a spot but she will have to wait for the final qualifying tournament set for Paris, France.
Another familiar name seeking a spot in the Tokyo Olympics via the boxoff is Hongkong's famous pro fighter Rex Tso who was beaten in the men's featherweight quarter finals by world champion Mirazbek Mirazkhalilov of Uzbekistan. Tso will meet Daniyal Shahbask of Iran.
In another semis upset yesterday, India's six time world women's champion Mary Kom who eliminated Riza Pasuit was defeated by China's Yuan Chang. The Indian has already qualified, nevertheless.
