Zamboanga City -- Local boy and bemedalled amateur standout Eric Canoy and Tanzania's Rajabu Maoja both came in at 124 lbs during today's official weighin at the Marcian Garden Hotel here. Canoy (6-0-0 4KOs) and Maoja (12-4-0 4KOs) will vie for the vacant WBO Oriental Featherweight Title at the Zamboanga City Coliseum tomorrow night. The weighin was supervised by WBO Vice-President for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo.

The official weighin immediately preceded a press conference for the event presided over by event organizer Congressman Erbie Fabian, SGG Sports Promotions' Sammy Gello-ani and Panoncillo. A sizeable throng of local mediamen made for a lively presscon which touched the future of local hopeful Eric Canoy and the future of boxing in Zamboanga.

Boxing in Zamboanga, which was practically non-existent in the last few years, is in for a strong revival after its comeback event headlined by Eric Canoy held at the Zamboanga City Coliseum last Dec. 2 drew more than 15,000 spectators. Tomorrow's explosive event is expected to surpass last December's attendance.
