PORTLAND --- Hassan Whiteside was a beast off the boards while Damian Lillard went on his usual scoring spree and the Portland Trail Blazers bested the San Antonio Spurs, 125-117, on Thursday night at the Moda Center.

Whiteside registered 17 points and tied a personal-best 23 rebounds and Lillard added ten assists to his 26 points to lead Portland back on the winning track after losing to the Denver Nuggets, 127-99, two days ago.

Carmelo Anthony chipped in 20 points and CJ McCollum had 19 for the Blazers, who made 49 of 92 field goals (53.3 percent) and and 18 of 37 from 3-land (48.6 percent) Portland also had decisive 50-39 edge in overall rebounds..

Six Blazers scored double figures in points but Lillard gave special mention to reserve player Gary Trent Jr. who had a stellar 19 off the bench.

"I think he is giving us something to be excited about. He's been consistent. How he's playing on the defensive end and he's getting to his spotsto be effective and making shots. He is somebody that has to be accounted for, especially on a night like tonight, he came up big for us," said Lillard.

San Antonio, which dropped three in a row, was led by Trey Lyles' 23 points.
