San Leandro, California -- Warrior Draymond Green thinks his team and younger mates are still not good enough.
He came short of (thrice) saying, ?We f***ing suck.?
It is hard to blame him what with back-to-back blowout losses and an 0-2 start courtesy of the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Last Monday night, however, Green took his own medicine and produced a triple-double performance scoring 16 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists leading the Golden State Warriors to their first victory against the winless Pelicans who never lost more than 7 points in their first three games.
?I felt it was necessary to preserve maximum humility and hunger in the locker room,? Green told NBA.com and added, ?We got to continue to compete at a high level. We did that tonight.?
The fiery pep talk worked.
Stephen Curry scored 26 points, 11 assists and three steals for GSW against a Pelicans squad that had three sidelined starters including top overall draft pick Zion Williamson.
D'Angelo Russell contributed 24 points, and Damion Lee poured in career highs 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Green?s layup with 5:08 left put the Warriors ahead 128-99 before the Pelicans made a futile attempt to make the final score look closer and the game appear more competitive.

The Warriors never trailed and were up by as much as 28 points.
For the Warriors, Glenn Robinson III had 12 points and nine assists. Out were Alec Burks (right ankle sprain), Willie Cauley-Stein (left foot sprain) and Alen Smailagic (right ankle sprain)? all three have yet to make their season debut. Kevon Looney is out with persistent right hamstring tightness.
?It?s going to be the theme of the season. We have to fight for everything this year. It may not be pretty,? said Warrior Steph Curry who was seen on NBA-TV skipping to the locker room with D?Angelo Russell and Jordan Poole.
For the Pelicans, Lonzo Ball had 12 points and nine assists. First round draft pick Jaxson Hayes had 19 points in his Pelicans debut. Kenrich Williams scored 16 points and rookie Nickeil Alexander-Walker had 15 points. E'Twaun Moore did not play for a third straight game. Brandon Ingram had 27 points and 10 rebounds.
?We were never in the game even at home. And I think that?s the most disturbing thing,? Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said.
The Warriors can relate to that.
