Errol Spence Jr. from Desoto, Texas has been the IBF welterweight champion since 2017, beating Kell Brook by 11th round KO. Spence, with an immaculate professional record of 25-0-0 with 21 KOs, is ranked as the world's No. 5 boxer, pound for pound, by BoxRec, No. 6 by The Ring and No. 9 by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board (TBRB). He is also ranked as the world's best welterweight boxer by The Ring and second by the TBRB and BoxRec.

As an amateur fighting in the welterweight division, he won three consecutive United States national championships from 2009 to 2011 and represented the U.S. at the 2012 London Olympics, where he reached the quarter-finals, losing to Russia's Andrey Zamkovoy. He also reached the quarter-finals at the 2011 World Championships, losing to Kazakhstan's Serik Sapiyev.

Shawn Porter is a two-time welterweight world champion, having held the WBC title since 2018, and previously the IBF title from 2013 to 2014. Porter is ranked No. 4 welterweight in the world by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and Boxrec and No. 5 by The Ring. He has a professional record of 30-2-1 with 17 KOs. He lost to Keith Thurman by unanimous decision and to Kell Brook by majority decision. He had a split draw with Julio Diaz.

Porter competed mostly in the middleweight division in the amateurs and garnered an impressive record of 276?14. In 2007 he won the World Golden Gloves Championship but at the PanAm Games, he was stopped in the second round by Cuba's Emilio Correa. He was not able to qualify for the 2008 U.S. Olympics team.

WBA world welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao chose Spence to win in 12 rounds. He was quoted by Boxing Scene: "It's going to be a good fight, a close fight, but I think Spence will win. It's not gonna be one-sided fight, it's gonna be a competitive fight. The fans will be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience in this fight."

Former welterweight unified champion Keith Thurman also favored Spence as he told Boxing Scene: "This is two world champion warriors going at it in a great fight. They have a common opponent in Kell Brook, who beat Shawn Porter and was knocked out by Errol Spence."

Thurman added : "Shawn's gonna come hungry but Brook and I handled that pressure, and I believe that Spence - being a tall southpaw with power and a great jab - will be able to deal with it as well. Spence has the power to stop Shawn, and if he does, I believe that would happen in the later rounds, like he did Brook."

The Lakers want to let center DeMarcus Cousins join them in spite of his injury to integrate him into the team?s culture. He is expected to be present in the Lakers' roster during the LeBron James-led minicamp in Las Vegas this week, league sources reported. Cousins suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during a practice in Las Vegas last August and is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season.

The Lakers have always made moves to take care of their players regardless of their status and how long they have been staying with the team. They rewarded Kobe Bryant with his last contract while he was recovering from a torn Achilles injury and also helped Xavier Henry in his rehabilitation for the same injury even after the team released him, Lakes Nation reported.

THE Southeast Asian Games men's basketball team will be the main subject when the PBA board meets on Thursday. PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone will attend the board meeting to discuss the preparations for the SEA Games which will be hosted by the Philippines this coming December.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio said the PBA is considering an alternative plan of reducing a season from three to two conferences so that the players will be given the opportunity to play for the national team during the international windows. The PBA board is also open to the proposal of forming a pool of players for the Gilas team, Panlilio added.
