
Abne, Sarcon are UBS champions

DAVAO CITY --- Flyweight April Jay "Astroboy" Abne of Misamis Oriental and bantamweight Lienard Sarcon of Davao City won the Ultimate Boxing Series (UBS) Kamaong Pinoy finals held Aug. 25 at the TV5 Station in Novaliches, Quezon City.
The 20-year old Abne of Wild Boxing Gym won by a majority decision over Ronel "The Hawk" Sumalpong, 22, of Bebot Elorde Boxing Gym from Surigao del Sur in the flyweight 8-round division.
Judges Gerald Bassig (80-72) and Jojo Llanera (78-74) had it both for Abne while Al Llaneta saw it as tie 76-all.
Abne remained undefeated with four straight wins while Sumalpong had his 2nd loss after 8 wins and 1 draw.
The 19-year old Sarcon of MP Davao Boxing Gym, on the other hand, scored a majority decision over 21-year old Aljum "Nightmare" Pelesio of Paranaque City to win the bantamweight division.
Judges Alfie Jocosol (77-75) and Llanera (78-74) gave it for Sarcon while Bassig saw it as a tie 76-all.
Sarcon remained undefeated with seven wins with two knockouts while Pelesio suffered its first setback after nine wins with five knockouts.
Promoter Gerry Penalosa of Gerrypens Promotions said the next promotion will be two division - featherweight and lightweight. (Lito delos Reyes)
