GIBBONS SAYS MANNY'S LEGACY IS BIGGER THAN FLOYD'S

MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons has told World Boxing News that Manny Pacquiao could not wait for Floyd Mayweather to agree to the much sought rematch and has to look for other opponents to establish his legacy.

Media and fans had since been speculating a return bout between the undefeated American and the senator. In his last three fights, Pacquiao has been very impressive with convincing triumphs over Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman. While Mayweather had a dull victory over Andre Berto, and prevailed over non-boxers MMA fighter Conor McGregor and kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.

When asked about the chances of the two great boxers facing each other once more atop the ring, Gibbons had this to say: ?I always tell people, that?s a great question. We?ve done everything we had to do; I think that?s a question for Floyd Mayweather."

Gibbons stated that Floyd has said over and over that he's retired and he's not boxing. That Mayweather was "within 4 ft. of the Senator at the Keith Thurman fight." The international matchmaker added that Floyd was very close, looked great, and looked nice. "But he was wearing a suit he wasn?t wearing any boxing trunks."

Gibbons replied that "I don?t have the answers" regarding the often questioned rematch. He said they would love to avenge that loss because the eight division world champion feels that a few things happened before that fight with his shoulder injury and some other issues that he wasn?t really 100% during that financial record breaking clash.

?Will it happen? We have no idea but in the meantime, the Senator is working on his legacy, where he?s going in boxing," explained Gibbons.

He is of the notion that "Manny's world doesn?t revolve around waiting for Mayweather to agree to a rematch." So the WBA welterweight champ is looking forward next year facing a top welterweight. Then after that they will see what will happen next with the other great fighters of the division.

Gibbons thinks Mayweather felt humiliated with Pacquiao?s continuing legacy in boxing. He is doubtful whether Floyd's ego could bear seeing his arch rival piling up wins over big names in the sport particularly the prestigious welterweight division.

Until they get a signal from Floyd that he agrees to a second fight, Pacquiao's team will carry on, the MP executive continued. ?We will fight whoever is presented and try to make entertaining fights for another year into 2020." He clarified though that the Senator, at this point in his career, will take one fight at a time.

But Gibbons did not count out the possibility that Mayweather got the itch and maybe tired of people talking about it again. And will finally give his go for the rematch.

Gibbons taunted the Money man comparing him with the Pacman saying ?Manny?s legacy is getting bigger than Floyd?s."

He says Mayweather always brags about his being 50-0, and Pacquiao is 62-7-2 and has won eight titles in eight divisions. Plus he?s still beating the best boxers, even younger than him.

As for Floyd, he beat up an MMA guy and some little poor Japanese guy, continued Gibbons. "His legacy is going out on beating up people on freak shows." While Pacquiao kept fighting and beating the best in the world.
