IBF SAYS CONDES CAN GET 90 DAY MEDICAL SUSPENSION

IBF Championship Committee chairman Lindsey Tucker says minimum weight champion Florante ?The Little Pacquiao? Condes ?can get a 90 day medical suspension if the IBF Medical Director agrees that Condes is in fact injured.?

Tucker informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that Condes would have to submit medical evidence to the IBF to show that he is really hurt.

Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain had Condes examined by GAB physician Dr. Redentor Viernes last Monday after the fighter was examined over the weekend by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jerry Reyes.

Dr. Reyes? diagnosis was that the 27 year old Condes was suffering from ?a severe sprain in his right wrist and a left upper back strain.? This was concurred in by Dr. Viernes after a separate examination.

Buhain said he would submit the medical report to the IBF with all the pertinent documents and seek a 30 day postponement of Condes? title defense against Mexican Raul ?Rayito? Garcia in his hometown of La Paz on February 16.

During a meeting with Condes, his aunt and uncle Mr. and Ms. Apolinar Valencia and lawyer Edgar Dennis Padernal, Buhain showed the group an email forwarded to him by American co-manager Dante Ortiz which he reportedly received from Tucker indicating that there would be an interim title fight in the event Condes was unable to fulfill his February 16 title defense.

However, in his email to us, Tucker said that IBF Rules ?do not allow us to hold an Interim Championship fight unless Condes? injury requires more than 90 days. In that case Condes must seek and be granted a Medical Exception.?

The IBF Championship Committee chairman disclosed that Condes would have to put up $20,000 and request a Medical Exception.

Tucker added that Condes would have ?up to 9 months to defend the title and we would order the two highest rated available fighters to fight for the Interim Title.? However he stressed that if Condes ?needed more than 90 days and did not get the Medical Exception, the title would be vacated. ?

Meantime, Condes received a warm welcome and was treated like a world champion should be when he went to the US Embassy on Tuesday to apply for a visa. Condes said the moment he showed the consular official who interviewed him his clippings and other documents he called the staff to meet "The Little Pacquiao." His aunt Ms. Valencia told us "Florante really felt he is a champion" even as they extended their gratitude to the consular staff for the attention they gave managerial struggle.
