IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes has injured his shoulder in sparring and as a result Games and Amusements Board Chairman Eric Buhain plans to request the IBF to grant a sixty-day postponement of Condes? scheduled title defense against Raul Garcia in La Paz, Mexico on February 16.

Buhain said the GAB in its board meeting yesterday decided on the course of action and scheduled a medical examination to be conducted by the agency?s accredited physician Dr. Viernes on Monday before submitting a request to IBF president Marian Muhammad.

Condes claimed he hurt his shoulder while sparring against bigger opponents at the Main Event gym in Quezon City under former world junior lightweight champion Morris East. After leaving East, Condes trained last Tuesday at the Wild Card Gym of business manager Rod Nazario in BF Homes, Paranaque and said later he had aggravated the injury which he said was "really painful" which forced him to skip training the following day.

Buhain told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today ?if the findings suggest there is an injury, I am quite certain there is basis on the report of the way he was training, we will seek a postponement of this particular defense to a later date.? Buhain added, ?this will allow Condes to recuperate and maybe undergo some therapy and we in the GAB will use whatever resources we have to help our boxer recover and be one hundred percent ready for the fight.?

The GAB chairman indicated that in case the IBF turns down the request for a 60-day postponement he would suggest that they hold an interim title fight with the winner facing Condes for the title at a later date.

Referring to the swirling controversy within his management team and others involved with Condes, Buhain said the GAB was taking a stand to place him under their so-called ?protective custody? until the various issues are resolved.

Buhain noted that based on a handwritten letter he received from Condes ?it seems our champion is really confused on who to trust. The people around him are also fighting. Protecting him and allowing him to purse his career undisturbed is our job and this is what we intend to fully implement.?
