ELORDE HAS FAITH IN RUBILLAR

Despite having left his fold after ten years and signed up with former world junior lightweight champion Morris East apparently lured by promises of big fights abroad and big paydays, Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde has not only accepted OPBF Juanito Rubillar back in his care, he also says he has faith in the fighter after he promised he would ?never do it again.?

Viva Sports covered Rubillar?s training session at Bebot Elorde?s gym at Saint Rita in Sucat, Paranaque for airing on its top-rated weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday and noticed that Rubillar who is ranked No. 2 by the WBC was totally focused and in good shape.

Elorde forgave Rubillar but his wife Arlene, the registered manager, was still angry over the boxer?s action of leaving them all of a sudden. But Bebot said ?you know women. I explained to her that he already came back so we will help him. We will give our full support to him.?

Elorde said he was confident that if Rubillar got another crack at the world title currently held by Edgar Sosa, he would win. With WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman rejecting the purse bid offer by promoter Gary Shaw of $30,000 for both Rubillar and No.1 ranked former champion Omar Nino to meet in a mandated eliminator for the right to battle Sosa, Elorde said that if the eliminator can be staged in Manila ?it will be a good break for Juanito.?

Trainer Roel Morato said Rubillar was ?ready for his next fight? but that he needed ?to add some rounds in sparring.? Morato noted that despite the managerial problems surrounding Rubillar ?there was no effect on him mentally. We will just train so that he will win.?

He said Omar Nino is ?a smart fighter? but that they had studied tapes of his fights very well ?so we can take advantage of what we have seen and first carry out our strategy in training.?

Morato said he was confident that if Rubillar fights Sosa for the title he would win and become a world champion. Rubillar said he is ?really training hard for my next fight whether Sosa will come first or I will defend my OPBF title.?
