DAVAO CITY ? Filipino southpaw Jonathan ?Lighting? Taconing (28W-3L-1D, 22KO) will challenge World Boxing Council (WBC) world light flyweight champion Ken ?The Amazing Boy? Shiro of Japan (15W-0L, 8KO) on July 12 at the Osaka Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan.

It will be the 6th title defense of Shiro. Taconing will be his third title opportunity.

His first title attempt was in 2012 in Thailand for WBC light flyweight crown against the then Thai champion Kompayak Pompramook, wherein he lost by a technical decision in the 5th round.

Then in 2018, Taconing was defeated by then champion Ganigan ?The Wonder? Lopez in Mexico.

Shiro, on the other hand, defeated Saul ?Baby? Juarez of Mexico by a unanimous decision in Tokyo last December.

?I am very motivated, since I am going to fight in Osaka for the first time as a world champion,? said Shiro.

?Jonathan Taconing is a good puncher. So when I fight him, I?ll fight fast but carefully, using distance and throwing plenty of jabs to keep him at bay,? added Shiro. (Lito delos Reyes)
