IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire says he is arriving in Manila on Friday morning aboard a Philippine Airlines flight and despite what seems like a hectic schedule of TV appearances arranged by Solar Sports over GMA 7 wants to continue training during his trip.
Donaire called Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today and said this time around he wants ?to make things right? in preparation for his next fight although he hasn?t spoken to either promoter Gary Shaw or manager Cameron Dunkin to find out about his next fight.
Donaire said he had ?begun training while having fun? but emphasized that in his next fight ?I want my legs to work so I can display my real talent like a Sugar Ray Leonard.? He said in his first title defense against Luis Maldonado he had problems moving around because of his legs and doesn?t want that to happen in his next fight.
Donaire said he was ?doing a lot of drills right now for his legs? which he attributed to doing a lot of traveling. Although he has one again ballooned to around 135 pounds, Donaire said once he works out seriously as planned at the Ringside Gym in Alabang, he should get his weight down.
However, Donaire indicated his schedule which was furnished by Solar Sports which is underwriting his trip to the Philippines with his mother and girlfriend had him appearing in the daily noontime show Eat Bulaga and the Sunday entertainment show SOP for what he said would be ?a few weeks?
However, the 25 year old world champion said he had made it clear to Solar Sports that he would do what the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN who brought him, his father and a cousin to the Philippines the first time after he won the title from Vic Darchinyan last July 7.
Touching on reported differences with his father/trainer Nonito Donaire Sr, he said ?I want him in my corner, nobody else? even as he underscored the fact that ?he must get the credit for what he did for me.?
