Filipino southpaw Junmar Dulog, a 19 year old from the stable of Dido Bohol who settled down in Sydney some years ago has scored a stunning upset eight round decision over favored Australian Heath ?The Heat? Ellis at Forth Knox in Ferntree Gully, Melbourne.
Meantime, two other Filipino boxers lost over the weekend in Australia.
Lightweight Robert Oyan lost a six round unanimous decision to former IBF title challenger Gairy ?Superman?: St. Clair at the Wyong Leagues Club in New South Wales. The loss was Oyan?s 32nd against 18 wins and 4 draws with only 6 knockouts. The 25 year old Oyan was coming off a eighth round unanimous decision loss to Davey Browne last November 17.
St. Clair (39-5-2, 17 KO?s) on the other hand lost a unanimous twelve round decision to South Africa?s Cassius Baloyi in an IBF super featherweight eliminator last November 12. He had previously the title to another South African, Malcolm Klassen in an IBF title fight on November 4, 2006. There was a time when Klassen was mentioned as a possible opponent for Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao but instead he decided to fight Mexican Jorge Solis in San Antonio, Texas.
In a light welterweight bout Ruben Santillanosa was knocked out in the third round of a scheduled six round bout against John Cotterill who improved to 22-4 with 10 knockouts while Santillanosa dropped to 8-15-1 with 5 knockouts. In his two previous fights Cotterill defeated two other Filipinos, Jun Pader and Junmar Dulog.
Dulog?s win was his first in his last six fights while Ellis lost only for the second time in nine fights. He is the nephew of former IBF super featherweight champion Lester Ellis.
Dulog carried the attack to Ellis from the opening bell and the Australian appeared to tire under the pressure according to Sports Nut. Two of the three judges had Dulog the winner 78-75 and 77-75 while a third judge scored it a 76-76 draw.
