MACTAN, Cebu - Following the blessed annual tradition, members of GAB Boxing Ring Officials of Cebu and Central Visayas held their Christmas party at Portofino Beach in Mactan, Cebu, a fun celebration that saw the unity and brotherhood among the members of the dynamic boxing ring officials organization.

The celebration - which started around 10 am and ended around 6 pm - began with a solemn prayer to our Lord Jesus Christ and our Holy Virgin Mary lead by veteran third man Teddy Alivio.

After prayers, celebrations began. The party included a really splendid masarap lunch that included two lechon baboys, kinilaw, calamares, adobos, native rice, grilled tilapia, fruits, an assortment of refreshing drinks and choco cake. In addition, the good time included a fun raffle with good number of prizes, with every member winning a prize.

The event proceeded with formal reports from the organization's president Edward Ligas; also a report from the treasurer Edgar Olalo, plus a long period of heartfelt talk in which every member expressed to the group whatever he wanted to say.

Ring announcer John Magat reminded that during boxing shows there is an assigned station for ring announcers and that nobody should disturb that station nor their work as the work of a ring announcer is a very important one. Everybody agreed.

Also, during that open talk, referee Tony Pesons suggested improvements that could be implemented in the coming year 2019. In addition, Pesons - a respected referee and former military man - offered, in the Spirit of Christmas, to sponsor half of the membership fee for all the members for the organization.

The annual membership fee to belong to the organization is 1,000 pesos per year per member. So thank you and Merry Christmas to you too, referee Tony Pesons!

The report from the president Edward Ligas was also interesting to listen to.

During the president's report, Ligas expressed the advances of the organization during the last two years with him at the helm.

Those advances include the recollection by Ligas of 25,000 pesos that belonged to the organization, which were personally withheld by previous leadership.

Ligas also stressed as an achievement the expansion of the organization to include Bohol and Central Visayas, as well as the successful introduction two ring inspector in each major fight, the adoption of the new Constitution and By Laws as guiding norms of the organization.

Some of the members present during the ring officials Christmas celebration were popular GAB ring announcer and Cebu radio personality John Magat, International judge Arnie Najera, referee Romar Kristoffer Embodo, judges Arnel Pasion, Noel Flores, Atty William Manos, Edwin Barrientos and Carlos Costa.

Wives of some of the GAB officials as well as friends joined the happy Christmas celebration. The group was joined by Cebu boxing photographer for Philboxing.com, our very own Levi Deresas.

The next meeting for the GAB Ring Officials of Cebu and Central Visayas will be held on January 26. During that next meeting it is expected that members will elect the new president and leadership of the Professional Boxing Ring Officials of Cebu and Central Visayas for the next period.

At the end of the party the members wished each other many blessings, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2019.
