IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire says he will begin training in Cebu after he spends the Christmas season with his mother, girlfriend Rachael Marcial and his relatives in the Philippines.

In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Donaire said his hands which swelled up during the title defense against Luis Maldonado in Connecticut last Sunday are ?healing really well and I feel good about it.? He said that when he returns to the Philippines ?I?m bringing all my stuff so a week or two after, I?m going to start training again.? He said that when he came home after winning the title from Vic Darchinyan he didn?t train at all and ?I had to pay the price.?

To prevent himself from ballooning up to some 140 pounds, Donaire said he would ?bring my gear, equipment and my sparring stuff so I?ll be ready whenever.? At the same time he praised famed ALA Gym owner Tony Aldeguer and his family and all the fighters who helped him prepare for his last title defense.

However, Donaire said there was no word on when he?ll fight again even as his promoter Gary Shaw told us he?d like to have ?his hands checked by a specialist in Los Angeles.?

Donaire disclosed that it would ?probably need another month before I could really start doing a lot of things but at the same time when I get there I am going to do running, shadow boxing because I don?t want to get too big .?

Donaire indicated his main concern was his grandfather who is "ailing right now. I dedicated my last fight to him and I don?t know when he?ll see me fight again and how long we?ll have. We want to be with him as long as we can and he can live on. We want to be there and support him because he was looking for my Mom and at the same time I?m going to train.?
