WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman has thanked the Elorde family for what he termed ?a beautiful dinner? hosted by the widow of the late, great world junior lightweight champion Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde during the recent 45th Annual Convention of the WBC held at the historic Manila Hotel.

Sulaiman told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that he was extending his thanks to the Elorde family on behalf of all the members of the WBC board and those who attended the convention in Manila. Sulaiman said ?I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the beautiful dinner offered to us during our presence by the whole family of our beloved and unforgettable Flash Elorde.?

The WBC president noted that Elorde is in the ?Hall of Fame? of the WBC and will ?always be remembered as one of the greatest champions that ever lived.?

Elorde who won the world title from Harold Gomes of the US with a sensational seventh round knockout before some 30,000 wildly cheering fans on March 16, 1960 at the inauguration of the famed Araneta Coliseum which today stands as the country?s acknowledged sports and entertainment center.

Elorde reigned for almost seven-and-a-half years as WBC/WBA junior lightweight champion before losing the title to Japan?s Yoshiaki Numata by a split decision on June 15, 1967 despite dropping Numata in the third round.
