Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) is a television boxing program organized by Haymon Boxing. The television series brings modernized widespread exposure of boxing, adding a state-of-the-art "concert-like" ambience, complete with high class boxing cards, using advanced technology to intensify the perception if the matches and its fighters, with television broadcasts through major networks and cable channels contradicting pay television and pay-per-view events.
The promotion has boxing cards scheduled on the four major television networks of the United States, namely ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC and their affiliated sports-oriented cable networks ESPN, CBS Sports Network, FS1, and NBCSN, respectively, and also with Spike and Bounce TV.
Both Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank filed lawsuits against Premier Boxing Champions and Haymon claiming that Haymon served both as a manager and promoter which are prohibited under the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act.
The two promoters also alleged that Haymon violated the antitrust law, "trying to effectively monopolize professional boxing in the United States by consolidating boxers, venue bookings, the events themselves, and broadcast rights under his ownership," as reported by ESPN.
The first PBC card aired on March 7, 2015 on NBC, and featured Keith Thurman in a welterweight match against Robert Guerrero, and Adrien Broner against John Molina in a junior welterweight bout. Al Michaels acted as the host, joined by Marv Albert and Sugar Ray Leonard ringside as commentators.
The viewership of the premiere broadcast peaked at 4.2 million viewers. NBC asserted that it was the most-watched professional boxing television event since Fox's March 1998 Oscar De La Hoya which attracted 5.9 million viewers.
?Expect more partnerships between MP Promotions and Premier Boxing Champions in the future as we try to bring back the glory days of boxing,? Pacquiao declared. MP Promotions and PBC jointly promised to help promote in the United States promising and the best boxers from the Philippines and other parts of Asia.
Pacquiao will have a speaking engagement with Oxford Union, Oxford University?s prestigious debating society on November 5. From Oxford, England Pacquiao will fly to New York City to start the press tour of his title fight. Then he will proceed to Los Angeles and fly back to Manila on November 9 tentatively.
Pacquiao is expected to be back fighting in the United States for the first time since 2016. His last bout in the United States was a unanimous decision win over Jessie Vargas in November 2016. Pacquiao said at a news conference in Manila that his fight with Adrien Broner was "90 percent" done.
Broner is 33-3-1 with 24 knockouts but has not been so dominant in his latest fights with a draw against Vargas in April and a loss to Mikey Garcia in July 2017. The common opponent of both fighters, Vargas predicts Pacquiao will win, even though Broner has the longer reach at 69" than that of Pacquiao at 67". Pacquiao will need to hurdle the Broner tests to set up another interesting match with Mayweather.
One man who says the Broner fight is a bad fight for Pacquiao is Oscar De La Hoya, the man whom Pacquiao stopped and retired in 2018. ?I don?t like it for Manny,? Oscar De La Hoya said in FightHub. ?At this point in his career, Manny should be fighting bigger names than that. At this stage of his career, Manny should go out and fight whoever he wants ? he deserves it. I think Broner beats him. Absolutely. Broner?s younger, I think he?s hungrier, his reflexes are better. It should be a good fight.?
"MP Promotions is very excited about this last phase of Senator Manny's Hall of Fame career. We look forward to launching this new relationship with Manny's first world title defense," said MP Promotions head Joe Ramos. "I would also like to acknowledge matchmaker Sean Gibbons, legal counsel Tom Falgui and Senator Manny's aide Steve Jumalon for their tireless efforts and invaluable advice."
