SPORTS TRIVIA 12: FORMER PACQUIAO FOE CHRIS ALGIERI TO RETURN ON NOVEMBER 30

Former WBO world super lightweight champion Chris Algieri will return to the ring on November 30, making his first fight at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, Long Island, New York since he hugged the national limelight in 2014. The opponent will be announced later this week. Algieri starred on an ala "Rocky" fight on June 14, 2014 at the Barclay's Center, Brooklyn, against the much favored Ruslan Provodnikov. Algieri was floored twice in the first round. With one eye practically closed and swelling, the never-say-die Algieri fought gallantly using his strong jabs to push the champ back and operated his punches at a distance, defending against the Russian's strong hooks. The bout went the full 12 rounds and Algieri won via split decision to become the new WBO super lightweight champion.

The win made Algieri an overnight international sensation He was offered a multi-million dollar title fight with pound-for-pound superstar Manny Pacquaio. The Pacquiao-Algieri bout was held at the Cotai Arena around the world in Macao, China. Algieri was a big underdog, and Pacquiao knocked Algieri down six times and made him tumble. Pacquiao won a one-sided unanimous decision, with scores of 119?103, 119?103, and 120?102. Algieri's undefeated record then was blemished. Later he lost to Amir Khan by unanimous decision and also lost to Errol Spence, Jr. by a 5th round TKO. Algieri presently has 21 wins, 8 wins by KO with 3 losses.

He is also the only player to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in the entire NBA career. He was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978.

Chris Paul of the Houston Rockets drew a two-game suspension for poking at Rajon Rondo's face and punching him. Rondo of the Los Angeles Lakers was meted a three-game suspension for punching and spitting at the Rockets point guard. Paul won the 2006 NBA Rookie of the Year Award, the 2013 NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award, two Olympic gold medals at 2008 Beijing and at 2012 London Games, and led the NBA in assists four times and steals six times. Paul's family nicknamed him CP3 because he, his father and brother all share the same C.P. initials.

Manny Pacquiao announced that he has signed with adviser Al Haymon, who is also the adviser to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Haymon was raised in Cleveland, Ohio and studied economics and got an MBA at Harvard. His career started with music promotion, and he managed artists such as M. C. Hammer, New Edition, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Mary J. Blige, and has worked with Eddie Murphy. In 2000, Haymon shifted into boxing and first managed Vernon Forrest. He then crearlted great impact in boxing, because of his association withMayweather. In 2005 and 2013, Haymon won the Al Buck Award (Manager of the Year) from the Boxing Writers Association of America. Haymon founded Premier Boxing Champions, which held its first event in 2015.

Vasyl Lomachenko will seek to unify his WBA (Super) and The Ring lightweight titles on December 8, 2018 at the Hulu Theater, New York against Jose Pedraza from Puerto Rico who is the WBO world lightweight champion. "Sniper" had held also the IBF super featherweight title from June 2015 to January 2017. As an amateur boxer he represented Puerto Rico, winning a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games, silver medal at the 2009 World Amateur Boxing Championships and gold medal at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games, and participation in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Pedraza won the WBC super featherweight youth world championship in only his sixth professional fight.
