Former two division world champion Jessie Vargas (28-2-2, 10 KOs) fought a twelve round majority draw with Thomas Dulorme (24-3-1, 16 KOs) in the main event of a Matchroom USA card at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The scores were 115-111 for Vargas, and 113-113 and 113-113 draw.
Dulorme showed one of his best fights, went down earlier, but was able to pull a reversal when he sent Vargas to the canvas in the dying seconds of the twelfth round. Vargas accepted that he did not expect such a good match from Dulorme.
The 29-year-old Vargas (born May 10, 1989) is a Mexican-American former world champion in two weight classes. He was the WBA (Regular) and IBO super lightweight titleholder in 2014, and the WBO welterweight titlist in 2016. He has a record of 120 wins and 20 losses as an amateur. He has some laudable achievements in the amateurs being a two-time Mexican national champion, a two-time United States junior national champion, and a member of the 2008 Mexican Olympic team.
Vargas defended his WBO welterweight title against eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao at the Thomas & Mack Centre in Las Vegas, before an audience of 16,132, which included former pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vargas lost his WBO title after losing via unanimous decision as the judges scored the fight 114-113, 118-109 and 118-109 all for Pacquiao. Compubox punchstats showed Pacquiao connecting 147 of 409 punches (36%) while Vargas landed 104 of his 562 punches thrown (19%).
Thomas Dulorme from Puerto Rico is currently under Mayweather Promotions. Dulorme was born on the island of Saint Martin and his family moved to Puerto Rico, his mother being of Puerto Rican descent. He won the Golden Gloves tournaments in Saint Martin, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. According to Dulorme, his amateur record was 140?2.
