Floyd Mayweather announced that he would like to fight Manny Pacquiao in December this year. But before he returns to the ring from his retirement to rematch against Pacquiao, it seems Floyd wants to engage in a tune-up fight first to warm up preferably in Tokyo as reported by TMZ Sports. Some enthusiasts are sensing that Mayweather is looking at facing kickboxers and MMA fighters too.

It was reported by lowkickmma.com that Mayweather is aiming a New Year?s Eve date if he can scout a big venue. If the Tokyo fight is realized then the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao II will happen in 2019.

The failure to arrange the first Floyd Mayweather?Manny Pacquiao fight was named the 2010 Event of the Year by The Ring.

Mayweather won over Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19, 2009. After the bout, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe stated that a fight with Pacquiao was the "next obvious choice from a marketing standpoint."

Marquez was recently quoted by Boxing News and Views: ?Just like the first one but I think it would be easier (this time) for Floyd. Mayweather knows what Manny already does. He would handle the distance and lateral movement easier this time. He would be defensive again and there would be little risk in the fight for him (Mayweather).?

On November 14, 2009, Pacquiao's 12th round KO win over Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto to win the WBO welterweight title triggered a hysteria demanding a fight between the two top pound-for-pound fighters. Problems in drug testing, purse split, television broadcast, and location cropped up and the fight did not push through.

After the failed negotiations, both boxers moved on to fight other fighters. On March 13, 2010, Pacquiao defeated Joshua Clottey by unanimous decision, and on May 1, 2010, Mayweather beat Shane Mosley by a unanimous decision.

On January 27, 2015 Mayweather and Pacquiao met each other face to face for the first time during an NBA game between the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks in Miami, Florida. Pacquiao said they exchanged phone numbers and from then on communicated with each other.

On February 20, 2015 Mayweather announced that a contract had been signed for a fight and it became official to happen on May 2, 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The pay-per-view sales broke revenue records in the U.S. with 4.6 million buys earning $410 million in revenue, making it the highest-grossing PPV in history.

British superstar Anthony Joshua dropped Alexander Povetkin twice in the seventh round and stopped him before an enormous crowd of more than 80,000 at the Wembley Stadium in London. Referee Steve Gray stopped the fight at 1:59 of the seventh round, when Povetkin was sent to the canvas for a second time.

The 6-feet-6, 246?-lb. Joshua retained the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles and successfully accomplished the WBA?s mandatory defense by beating Povetkin. He also became the first fighter to knock out Russia?s Povetkin, a former WBA heavyweight champion.

Joshua won the silver medal at the 2011 World Championships as an amateur in the super-heavyweight division. He also won the gold at the 2012 Olympics. In 2017, Joshua's victory against Wladimir Klitschko was named Fight of the Year by The Ring and the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum is joining the race to secure the services of middleweight fighters Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin who are now free agents. Arum, as part of his exclusive deal with ESPN, would like to sign Canelo and Golovkin with the network.

According to Arum his venture with ESPN is very necessary in order to revitalize the business of boxing. Arum said the return of boxing back to free television will facilitate bigger audiences. That is the main reason he brought his most popular boxers to ESPN like Manny Pacquiao, Terence Crawford, and Vasyl Lomachenko.

?Nothing against HBO and Showtime, but they are premium channels that mostly do entertainment and a little bit of sports and boxing. They are not sports stations, and no one covers sports better than ESPN," Arum said.
