Four Asian countries, including North and South Korea, have joined the bidding to host the 2032 Summr Oympic Games.

Other countries this part of the world which have indicated their interest to stage the ?World?s Greatest Sports Show? 14 years from now are Indonesia and India.

South Africa's Olympic committee is, likewise, interested to bring the Olympics to Africa for the first time as well as Germany and Australia.

The two Koreas look to be more interested in hosting as shown by a joint statement made by Presidents Kim Jong Un of the North and Moon Jae-in of the South during major summit held on Wednesday.

No details of where the Game will be held were mentioned nor the events to be contested.

Hosting a big sports event in the magnitude of the Olympics is not new to South Korea whose premier city of Seoul was the site of the 1988 editionn of the quadrennial conclave.

South Korea also hosted the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang last February.

Traditionally, the International Olympic Committee announces the host city seven years ahead of the Games. That would give the Koreas or whichever country wins the hosting until 2025 to put together their bids.

Germany is reported to offer several of its cities as venues, while Australia, if it wins the right, wants to hold the Games in Brisbane. Indonesia is offering Jakarta, which hosted the recent 18th Asian Games, as host.

India Olympic Committee was also non-committal as to where the Olympics could be held. New Delhi though had hosted the 1951 First Asiad as well as the 9th in 1982.

Asia is actually hosting the next two Olympics ? the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo and the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, which also hosted the summer version in 2008.

The Japanese city of Sapporo, meanwhile, has dropped its bid to host the 2026 Winter Games citing the recent earthquake as reason.

After meeting with Sapporo representatives, the International Olympic Committee said on Monday the city, which became the first in Asia to host the Winter Olympics in 1972, will focus on its bid for the 2030 Games.

Japanese officials have said 41 people were killed when an earthquake hit Japan's northern island of Hokkaido, where Sapporo is located, on Sept. 6. Even before the earthquake, Sapporo officials had said they might prefer to focus on 2030.

The IOC "expressed its understanding that recovery from the earthquake in the region should be the immediate principle focus but greatly appreciated the continued strong commitment as a future host for the Olympic Winter Games."

Four bids remain in contention for 2026 -- Stockholm; Calgary, Alberta, Canada; a three-way Italian bid from Turin, Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo; and Erzurum, Turkey.

Sapporo's exit means there is no chance of having three consecutive Winter Olympics in East Asia after this year's games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the upcoming 2022 event in Beijing.
