Buboy Fernandez to handle Pacquiao's training for Mayweather rematch

After a successful debut as head trainer of Manny Pacquiao for his knockout victory over Lucas Matthysse of Argentina on May 15, 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Pacquiao?s childhood friend Buboy Fernandez will continue to be in Pacquiao?s corner as head trainer when he clash with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather for the second time.

When asked if Fernandez would still be the head trainer for the proposed Mayweather fight, Pacquiao said yes in a video posted on Rappler following his close encounter with Mayweather in Japan last weekend. View video here:



While no official announcement has been made on the proposed rematch, it appears from the Instagram post by both Mayweather and Pacquiao that the fight will indeed happen.

The series of posts on social media accompanied by photos and videos were triggered by the unexpected encounter by both fighters in a social event where they were both invited in Japan on Saturday.

The long-awaited rematch between Pacquiao and Mayweather could happen within this year.?

In his statement, Mayweather was specific with regards to the timing of the fight, saying he?s coming back to fight Pacquiao this year.

In the same interview, Pacquiao could not commit on the timing saying it is yet to be discussed including the terms of the fight and most importantly the venue.

Fernandez has served as assistant trainer of Pacquiao for most of his title fights since he turned pro in 1995. But it was under Pacquiao?s head trainer Freddie Roach that Fernandez learned the rudiments of training and coaching.

Aside from Pacquiao, Fernandez has served as trainer of Pacquiao?s brother Bobby Pacquiao,Eden Sonsona, Richie Mepranum, Jimrex Jaca, Chica Nakamura and Ernel Fontanilla, among others.
