Over the years, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has mastered how to grab the headlines in print and online sports pages.
On the busiest day of boxing and combat sports news this year - featuring the highly anticipated rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez in Las Vegas - Mayweather once again came up with a big and viral announcement through his social media accounts.
And he tagged his other famous ring rival - Manny Pacquiao - in his most recent revelation that has overshadowed the buzz from Golovkin and Alvarez?s rematch tonight.
?I?m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year. Another 9 figure payday on the way,? Mayweather Jr. posted on his Instagram account Saturday.
This was the caption of an Instagram clip that showed Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao together in a social event in Tokyo, Japan.
The retired Mayweather Jr. is shown taunting Pacquiao of which the Filipino icon replied ..? I have your belt. I have your belt.?
?I?m going to take it from you like I did before,? Mayweather asserted.
That belt is Mayweather Jr.?s World Boxing Association welterweight title that Pacquiao now owns after beating its most recent holder - Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur last July.
Both fighters battled for the same title belt in addition to the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization ?s (WBO) welterweight title on May 2, 2015 on what was dubbed as ?The Fight of the Century?.
Mayweather Jr. defeated Pacquiao by Unanimous Decision in a fight that broke all financial records of the sport.
Pacquiao complained of a nagging shoulder injury after the fight which his camp blamed for the loss.
?Hey, I don?t want you to say that your shoulder hurts,? Mayweather Jr. told Pacquiao in the same clip.
Two hours after Mayweather?s post, Pacquiao posted a video clip of the same meeting and captioned it ?50-1 #NoExcuses? in his social media accounts.
Two one minute videos from two ring legends are all that it took to steal the limelight from a well-hyped GGG vs. Canelo tonight in Las Vegas.
