Plania pressures Merin.

POLOMOLOK, South Cotabato -- Sanman Boxing Promotions led by Gensan men of boxing Dexter Tan and Jim Claude Manangquil scored another exciting fighting success Sunday evening (Sep 9) by staging two WBC regional belts plus nine non-title combats in the Municipality of Polomolok in South Cotabato, an event that spiced-up the town's 61th foundation anniversary and its 15th Flomlok Festival.

In the main event, slick Gensan-born super bantamweight Mike Plania (16-1, 9 KO's) outclassed and stopped Bukidnon's Angelito Merin (9-9-3, 3 KO's) in four stanzas to capture the vacant WBC Asian Silver 122-pound title. The promising Mike Plania, 21, showcased superior boxing skills over the limited Angelito Merin of the Empire Boxing Stable who visited the blue canvas in the second chapter, and then got stopped in the fourth at the 1:30 seconds mark. The referee who timely halted actions was former boxer Rodel Garde of Davao.

In the co-main feature, "The Dobermann" Dave Mark Apolinario (8-0, 5 KO's) of the Sanman Stable taught a boxing lesson to the more experienced but ineffective Michael Camelion (10-10-1, 8 KO's) of Bukidnon to capture by unanimous decision the vacant WBC Youth Flyweight Belt. The 19 year-old Dave Mark Apolinario - who comes from a large family of boxers - dominated Camelion with his more refined boxing, landing right jabs and straight lefts over the course of the 8-round battle. Some of Apolinario's blows landed solidly over Camelion, however the man from Bukidnon was at no moment in danger of losing by knock out. At the end, the experienced third man Alberto Heramil raised the hand of Apolinario, who seem ready for tougher challenges.

UZBEKISTAN FIGHTERS SCORE WINS IN POLOMOLOK

In the main supporting bout, undefeated Uzbekistan super welterweight Ulugbek Sobirov (8-0, 5 KO's) recorded a 5th round technical decision victory over brave 40 year-old Filipino former titlist Dondon Sultan (20-24-3, 11 KO's) of the Wild Boxing Stable whose cut over the left eye prompted the stoppage of the battle; a battle which was being clearly commanded by the taller, stronger Uzbek brawler. The cut on Sultan was a product on a non-intentional headbutt in the early stages of the rumble and the halting of actions was the sensible and appropriate. This was second win for the friendly Uzbekistan boxer Sobirov in Filipino soil. Sobirov is stablemate of world-ranked Filipino Mark Magsayo.

Also, Uzbek welterweight Jasur Akhmadjonov (7-0-1, 5 KO's) kept his unbeaten record intact as he fast ravaged with a devastating body attack veteran Mindanao boxer former titlist Jose "The Bomber" Ocampo (20-11-1, 13 KO's) who succumbed to the attack near his own blue corner and got counted-out during the middle part of the very first stanza. Official GAB time was 1:28 of round one, a quick win for the bearded 22 year-old Jasur Akhmadjonov who is trained in Malaysia by Filipino boxing coach Lixer Paingco.

In addition, welterweight Bekzod Tursunboev (2-0, 2 KO's) also from Uzbekistan, vaporized in the very first round unheralded Ryan Maano (3-9-2, 1 KO) of Cebu. Tursunboev massacred the shorter Maano from the getgo, punishing him with huge blows to the head that sent the brave Maano spiraling to the canvas of the Polomolok Municipal Gym. The GAB official time was 2:13 seconds in round one. The southpaw Tursunboev belongs to Malaysia's boxing outfit Vladimier Boxing.

MORE EXCITING COMBATS THRILLED POLOMOLOK BOXING FANS

An unexpected one-hour brownout in the middle of boxing action, plus heavy rain pouring over the town did not affect the excitement of boxing fans and the fighting continued.

Then, with a surprising body attack in the second round, Gensan flyweight Jerven Mama (7-0-1, 5 KO's) of the Sanman Stable demolished unheralded southpaw Nicardo Calamba (8-29-4, 5 KO's) of Butuan, punishing him tough. The debacle for Calamba came-in as he did not see Jerven Mama's quick big blow aiming at his mid-section. Because of that, he ended up on the floor without air. GAB official time was 2:10 seconds in round two.

Whats more, veteran Gensan lightweight Ernie Sanchez (19-12-1, 10 KO's) of the Sanman Boxing Stable scored a round 3 stoppage win as his opponent Richard Betos of Butuan surrendered in his corner, not coming out for the fourth round. The referee was Teodoro Denonong.

In another knock out win, undefeated Sanman flyweight Judy Flores (5-0, 2 KO's) needed just two rounds to vaporize with a body shot unheralded southpaw Wiljan Ugbaniel (13-10-1, 4 KO's) of Sarangani. The third man in charge was Rodolfo Hospital.

Heavy-handed Featherweight Presco Carcosia (3-0, 3 KO's) brutalized Sarangani fighter Yoben Limentillo (2-3, 1 KO) from the sound of the first bell rocking him down to the canvas twice. The first knock down was a strong well-placed combo to the head that sent Limentillo ass first to the canvas on the red corner area. Limentillo bravely got up at the count of referee Teodoro Denonong. But later on a vicious body attack thrown by Carcosia rocked Limentillo back to the floor again.. and Limentillo understandably said "no mas," prompting the TKO at the 2:44 seconds mark in round 1.

In the second bout of the exciting evening, 38 year-old Sarangani-born Ernel "Assassin" Fontanilla (9-3-2, 7 KO's) came back to the ring after a 10 year absence to beat up and stop unheralded Jason Tresmonte (0-3, 0 KO's) of Sarangani. Wearing white trunks, the "Assassin" looking bigger and stronger came swinging rough at Tresmonte clicking him with two good combos that got the non-assassin shaking backwards against the ropes where a severe rain of leather poured-in with damaging consequences, and the brave Tresmonte went down. The end came fast at the 1:22 seconds mark of round one, and the Assassin, now living in California USA, is now successfully back in pro boxing.

In the closest, most competitive rumble of the evening, 105-pounder rookie Jerry Ambrad (1-0, 0 KO's) of Medellin, Cebu, successfully stepped into pro boxing by outpointing in a 4-rounder unanimous decision Sanman fighter Regie Mananquil (1-1, 0 KO's) of Gensan. Mananquil was the saga's aggressor coming forward, pero missing shots, while the taller backpedaling Cebuano landed slightly more shots with counters. The big turning-point in the fight was the knock down suffered by Regie Mananquil during the action of the third round, which proved costly for Regie. The third man in charge was Rodolfo Hospital.

The scheduled fight of Sanman Jr. Flyweight fighter Wendel Plania against Elezer Ambon was canceled in the last minute because GAB found out in pre-fight medical exams that boxer Ambon is Hepatitis B. Therefore, the fight was cancelled, and Ambon will have to get heal before coming back to boxing.

Fight supervisors were GAB Officer-In-Charge Datu Fahd Yasser Sinsuat and GAB Sports & Games Regulation Officer John Kenneth Improso, both from Davao.

GAB Judges were Jaime Mata, Brembot Dulalas, Romeo Fordaliza, Mario De Ramos, Sabas Ponpon,Jr., and Marlou Neri III

Referees: Rodel Garde, Alberto Heramil, Rodolfo Hospital and Teodoro Denonong. Ring Announcer: Bonnie Templonuevo.

The GAB ringside doctors were Dr. Carlos Clemente III and Dr. Arthur Carpentero.

Timekeepers: Rosendo Garcila and Jimson Mata

The boxing event Sunday (September 9) in Polomolok was another production of General Santos City promoters Dexter Tan and Jim Claude "JC" Manangquil Sanman Boxing Promotions.
