Rogen Ladon settles for the silver medal when an injury cuts short the final bout as he lost to Jasurbek Latipov of Uzbekistan in the flyweight division of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
A gash on Ladon's left eyebrow, after he collided heads with Latipov early in the second round, prompted Hungarian referee Piroska Beki to call the ringside physician to check on his cut.
The doctor ruled Ladon unfit to continue dur to the severe injury and Beki stopped the bout 22 seconds into the second round.
Three judges scored it 20-18 for Latipov while one judge had it 20-18 for Ladon and the fifth scored it even 19-19.
Latipov was ahead in the judges' scorecards 3-1 when their final match was stopped, and the gold was awarded to the Uzbek fighter with Ladon getting the Philippines' second silver in the Jakarta Asian Games. Kiyomi Watanabe earned the country's? first silver in the women?s 63-kg division in judo.
During his match with Thailand's Yuttapong Tongdee in the semifinal round, Ladon already had the cut over his left eye and it was teared again when it clashed with his Uzbek opponent's head.
The Philippines now has four gold medals, two silvers, and 15 bronzes placing 19th in the medal tally in the ongoing quadrennial continental games.
The Bago City fighter said he was upset because he thought his foe didn?t even connect a punch. He added that he had more punches that landed, but that?s still how the judges decided.
The last Filipino boxer to win an Asiad gold medal was flyweight Rey Saludar when he outpointed China?s Chang Yong in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.
