After the eleventh day of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, there were only three boxers left fighting from the eight members of the Philippine boxing team.

They are Rogen Ladon, Carlo Paalam and Eumir Felix Marcial who entered the semifinals having hurdled their respective tough opponents.

ABS-CBN reported that boxing analyst Dennis Principe likes the winning chance of Marcial, describing him "among the middleweight contenders in Asia, he's the most talented.

Marcial won the SEA Games gold two times, and has the height, the heft, the body of the middleweight but he moves like a lightweight, according to Principe.

Marcial knocked out Macau?s Ng Kuo Kok in the second round of their middleweight bout to advance to the next round. The 2011 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships gold medalist scored another imposing victory over South Korea?s Kim Jinjea, 5-0 in the quarterfinals.

Paalam had no difficulty disposing Chinese Taipei?s Tu Powei, 5-0. Paalam luckily drew a bye in the round of 16 and fiercely fought his Taiwanese foe to victory.

Rogen Ladon defeated Azat Mahmetov of Kazakhstan to win at least a bronze medal. Ladon, the underdog of the fight, won 3-2 in the quarterfinals against a very deadly opponent.

Marcial will battle Israil Madimov of Uzbekistan in the middleweight, Ladon will face Thailand's Yuttapong Tongdee in the flyweight, while Paalam fights India's Amit Panghal all on Friday in the men's light flyweight semifinals.

The three remaining fighters hoped to surpass the achievement of our boxing team in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games where Charly Suarez won a silver medal and Mark Anthony Barriga, Wilfredo Lopez, and Mario Fernandez won three bronze medals.

Boxing has been included in every Asian Games since the sport was first contested at the 1954 Asian Games. The medal standings up to the 2014 Asian Games:

Country Gold-Silver-Bronze-Total
1. South Korea 58-25-30-113

3 Kazakhstan 16-11-12-39
4 Philippines 15-9-29-53
5 Uzbekistan 14-10-13-37

7 China 9-12-11-32
8 India 8-16-31-55

Meanwhile, skateboarder Margielyn Didal won the Philippine's fourth gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games. She showed spectacular tricks, as she topped the women's skateboarding street event on Wednesday.

Didal tallied 30.4 points to defeat Isa Kaya of Japan who scored 25.0 points and won the silver and Bunga Nyimas of host Indonesia who got 19.8 points, and settled for the bronze, in the sport that made its debut in the Asian Games.
