Following what was regarded as a highly successful WBC International double header at Wembley Arena last Friday, Branco Sports Productions ( BSP ) hopes to do even better with an exciting fight card at the Carousel Casino on November 30th.
With last Friday?s Lucky Lewele-Bongani Mwelase welterweight battle considered as the top contender for ?Fight of the Year? honors, multiple award-winning promoters BSP have decided to wrap up their most successful year yet, with a massive ?Triple Header? at the popular casino north of Pretoria .
Pre-eminent promoter Branco Milenkovic unveiled the details of the tournament and future plans during a quick visit to Manila for the 45th Annual Convention of the WBC at the historic Manila Hotel where he lobbied successfully for better ratings for his nine WBC International champions during the Convention.
The Carousel International Boxing Extravaganza will feature the unbeaten WBC International light flyweight champion Phumzile Matyhila (15-0, 9 KO's), currently ranked # 12 by the WBC and 14th by both the IBF and WBO, who will face Filipino challenger Alex Aroy who has a record of 12-5-1 with 6 knockouts.
Many believe Aroy was extremely unlucky to have lost his straw-weight battle against another South African, Zukisani Kwayiba last September when the lights went out and they had to go to the scorcards of the judges at the end of the seventh round. The Aroy camp claimed the Filipino fighter was getting the upperhand when the power failure occured.
Milenkovic said he would do everything to bring Aroy back and kept his word and succeeded in convinciung the WBC that Aroy deserved another title shot. Since the Filipino had difficulty making the weight Milenkovic matched him against light flyweight champion Matyhila.
WBC International bantamweight champion Vusi Malinga (WBC # 4 and IBF # 9), who is penciled in for a world title challenge in the New Year, will defend his prestigious green belt against the Argentinean Sergio Victor Caruso.
The Carousel bash will also feature the former IBF world champion and the current top world title contender Malcolm Klassen, who engages another Argentinean Pablo Ernesto Olivetta in a fight which could propel him towards another world title shot in the new year.
It will be Klassen?s first fight under the BSP banner since he ditched his previous promoters after losing his IBF title defense against champion Mzonke Fana in April.
Another very familiar name on the card at the Carousel, will be that of former IBO and South African junior bantamweight champion Simon Ramoni, who faces ?Baby Champ? Bongani Mahlangu, while BSP ?s unbeaten welterweight prospect Chris van Heerden will be back to make his second appearance at the casino venue.
