ARUM MEETS PACQUIAO IN GENSAN TO NEGOTIATE FOR NEXT FIGHT

Reports had it that Top Rank boss Bob Arum is in General Santos City to meet with senator and world champion Manny Pacquiao. Most probably, Arum is going to negotiate with the Filipino boxing icon regarding his next opponent and hopefully promote or co-promote his next fight.
For more than ten years, the Arum-Pacquiao partnership made him world champion several times but turned sour after that controversial unanimous decision loss to Jeff Horn last year in Australia.
Pacquiao promoted his own fight against Lucas Matthysse last month in Malaysia through his own MP Promotions. It proved to be a lucky charm as Pacquiao won his eleventh major world title, the WBA "regular" welterweight belt, and scored his first knockout in nine years.
Although Arum had a minor task in the promotion for the fight as he was assigned on the broadcasting of the bout on ESPN+ in the United States.
Arum made some pronouncements in the media about Pacquiao fighting his proteges next, pointing to Vasyl Lomachenko and Terence Crawford as his next possible opponents.
But Pacquiao reacted on his Twitter that no one is allowed to negotiate and speak about his next fight except himself through his own promotions.
Pacquiao posted on his social media account: ?I, through MP Promotions, will be handling any and all negotiations for my next fight. Nobody is authorized to speak on my behalf. You know my number, call me."
The Pacquiao camp is also considering a possible encounter with either Amir Khan, Mikey Garcia or even a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Arum must be threatened by Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn's announcement that he is luring Pacquiao to appear on DAZN, a new streaming company to be launched next month where Hearn signed a multi-year contract.
Matchroom forged an agreemement to provide fight broadcasts to DAZN and Hearn wants to feature Pacquiao on the new streaming service.
DAZN and ESPN+ are now rivals in the streaming business and that makes Arum's company a direct competitor to Hearn's Matchroom because Top Rank is the exclusive fight provider for ESPN and ESPN+.
