The race as to which promotional outfit will handle Filipino ring hero Manny Pacquiao?s next fight is believed to have been started.
And if the arrival of the veteran international matchmaker Bob Arum in the country is to be the gauge, it seems the competition had ended, too, with Top Rank, where septuagenarian is the CEO, most likely, the winner.
Arum was in General Santos City on Friday following his unannounced arrival in what could be taken as a reconciliatory approach to renew their more than a decade of successful and productive promoter-boxer relationship that ended on sour note last year after Pacquiao?s controversial loss to Australian Jerff Horn.
Arum?s visit would, too, raises hopes of an eventual blockbuster matchup between the now Philippine Senator and current pound-for-pound world lightweight kingpin Vasyl Lomachencco, who fights under Top Rank.
Arum was still meeting with Manny and his group as of this writing.
Given their partnership with ESPN which had generated good viewing figures in the US in Pacquiao?s fight against WBA welterweight belt-owner Lucas Matthysse last month which the Filipino won via TKO, chances are reconciliation wouldn?t be that remote.
Two main promoter have, likewise, signified their intentions of past signing Pacquiao -- Eddie Hearn who launches the new DAZN app in the US soon and Pacquiao?s old rival ? Floyd Mayweather.
Both are capable of putting together significant packages and secure big fights for the ?Pacman? although not a few more promoters besides the above wouldn?t be far behind.
Pacquiao has his own MP Promotions that handled his bouts, but it will be interesting to see who he partner with for the last few fights of his career.
There, too, is Golden Boy Promotions which co-promoted the Matthysse fight and which could be a dark horse to secure his services too.
Arum, before the Matthysse bout, had spoken positively on his relationship with the eight division champion, saying --??We?re still very friendly.?
?Well, we?re still very friendly. We (Top Rank Promotions) will distribute the fight in the United States,? Arum was quoted as saying as to his and Top Rank?s role on that fight.
