TADURAN FACES MENAYOTHIN WHO ATTEMPTS AT 51-0 TO BREAK MAYWEATHER'S RECORD

Pedro Taduran Jr, the fighter from Libon, Albay will challenge World Boxing Council minimumweight champion Wanheng Menayothin of Thailand on August 28. The title match will be fought in Nakhon Sawan province, Thailand where the Thai champion will defend his title for the tenth time.
Menayothin strives to improve his record to 51-0 to break the 50-0 record of five division world champion Floyd Mayweather. The former world pound-for-pound king last fought a year ago stopping Conor McGregor in ten rounds.
The Valenzuela-based Taduran has an impressive record of 12 wins with 9 knockouts and one loss. Taduran, 21 years old, is ranked No. 14 WBC contender in their division.
Nicknamed "Rattle Snake" he is the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) minimumweight Philippine champion and took the belt when he defeated Jerry Tomogdan by 5th round KO. Earlier, he won the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) version of the title by 2nd round TKO over Philip Luis Cuerdo.
Named Chayaphon Moonsri, the 32 year-old Menayothin is a very deadly opponent ever since he fought more than 200 amateur matches and had a long winning tradition at the WBC. He won the WBC youth minimumweight belt in March 2007, and was able to defend it eight times.
After which he won the WBC international title in December 2009, defending it 12 times. On November 2014, he became the world minimumweight champion by knocking out Mexican Osvaldo "Gallito" Novoa in the 9th round.

The rematch between IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin and Mexican icon Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, which is scheduled on September 15th during Mexican Independence Day weekend, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, has tickets almost sold out, according to Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez.
Gomez announced that just over 2,000 tickets remained. But its not like the first fight whose tickets sold out just over two months before the event.
"Just the promotional stage is coming so we hope to have the tickets sold out by the end of this month or the beginning of next month. We have a lot of things to compete with..... the World Cup just ended, we have the NFL, Major League Baseball, other events," Gomez told ESPN Deportes. "We can certainly say that it will be a great entry for September 15 in the ' Super Bowl 'of boxing."
During the first encounter, Canelo and Golovkin got the third highest box office sales in Las Vegas with more than $ 27 million and a total of 17,318 tickets sold. Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight topped it, selling 16,219 tickets for a total sales of over $ 72 million, and Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor had 13,094 tickets sold for revenues of over $ 55 million.

In the Philippines, boxing is considered a famous sport together with basketball, and it brought to the country several Olympic heroes and professional world champions.
The Philippines has not won an Olympic gold medal but boxing harvested more medals in the Olympics compared to the other sporting events with 5 out of 9 total medals.
Boxing have produced 40 major world champions, one of the countries with the most in the world. Filipino greats champs like Pancho Villa, Flash Elorde and Ceferino Garcia were inducted into the two highly prestigious boxing hall of fames, the International Boxing Hall of Fame and World Boxing Hall of Fame.
With these, the Philippines has the most number of boxing hall of fame members among countries in Asia.
