Internationally known matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz says that the deadline for the IBF super flyweight eliminator between Z ?The Dream? Gorres and IBO champion Vic Darchinyan is February 13, 2008 and that unless the fight takes place before then the IBF would ?send a letter to the next available contender to fight the mandatory.?

Lewkowicz made the clarification in the light of initial reports that the fight would take place in March and that there was a change of heart. At the same time there was talk of the Gorres-Darchinyan eliminator serving as the supporting main event in a WBO title defense of Gerry Penalosa set for February 16 but with the IBF deadline it seems the eliminator will take place in Cebu on February 2 as earlier announced.

Prior to the overseas telephone conversation with Lewkowicz who was tasked by Golden Boy Promotions as well as ALA Gym patron Tony Aldeguer to handle the negotiations, IBF Championship Committee chairman Lindsey Tucker Jr informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today ?I have Gorres? contract and Gary Shaw Productions agreed to Vic Darchinyan?s contract. I will cancel the Purse Bid scheduled for tomorrow? in New Jersey.

Lewkowicz disclosed that they had an offer to fight in Australia but the venue was not available and as a result Darchinyan?s manager Elias Nasser whom he described as a real gentleman said that in order ?not to create any problems I will go to the Philippines because I have heard only good things about ALA boxing and the way they treated people.?

As a result Lewkowicz enthused ?we can bring this wonderful fight to Cebu.? At the same time the matchmaker said that Gary Shaw who is ?a very busy promoter will attend because he believes it is a very important fight for both fighters.?

Former Olympian and respected WBC referee/judge Malcolm Bulner of Australia said the eliminator should be ?an interesting fight and I am looking forward to seeing it.? Referring to Darchinyan?s propensity to talk a lot Bulner said ?that?s his character and it makes for a good and exciting fight.?
