One Championship wants to bring Manny Pacquiao's fight back home here in the Philippines, as the Singapore-based organization is currently expanding its presence across all combat sports according to Mathew Scott of South China Morning Post. Pacquiao is back on the global boxing limelight and now Asia?s largest martial arts promotion wants the senator cum boxing icon to usher his fight back home.
?I?d love to see him defend his title in the Philippines and give Filipino fans what they want in a mega card,? said One Championship founder Chatri Sityodtong as quoted by scmp.com. ?Manny, let?s do it.?
Pacquiao declared after his latest win against Lucas Matthysse that he dreams of another encounter with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and has since announced that his next bout will be on December 2.
The One organization broadened its coverage on all combat sports, and its new Super Series of stand-up fights is now a popular addition to its regular mixed martial arts cards.
Two weeks ago Sityodtong announced One signed a deal to co-promote the fight of Thailand?s WBC world super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and the organization would pursue a similar co-promotion contract with Pacquiao's own MP Promotions.
?We could gather all of the heroes the Philippines have on a mega card and blast it out to the whole world,? added Sityodtong.
Hong Kong is targeted as another possible host of next Pacquiao?s fight as his manager Arnold Vegafria disclosed to the said source that a bout in the Special Administrative Region is feasible.
?Why not? Hong Kong is part of China and we are trying to promote boxing in China. And we?ve been to Macau in the past so it?s possible,? Vegafria said.
Several Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern countries are clearly now chasing for a contract with Pacquiao. Sityodtong wants the fighting senator to be part of one of his organization?s regular blockbuster event cards held at Mall of Asia Arena.
?What we want to showcase is all combat sports, and we want to get multiple division champions across all disciplines,? Sityodtong said. ?We want to give the Filipino fans what they want.?
Sityodtong mentioned Pacquiao in a press conference for the One: Reign of Kings card to be held in Manila on Friday night.
This could be the beginning of a series of steps to bring back home the Pacquiao fight before he retires. His last showdown in the Philippines was a unanimous decision win over Mexico's Oscar Larios last July 2, 2006 at the Araneta Coliseum where Pacquiao retained his WBC international super featherweight title.
