SPORTS ROUNDUP 3: NO OVERTRAINING FOR PACQUIAO

According to strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune, Manny Pacquiao has trained for the fight of his life. ?Those phase of the training program will give Manny a clear mind and strong body designed to help him fight a good fight and give boxing fans the fight they like,? Fortune told The Manila Times. ?We all know Manny. When he fights, he always think of the fans, how to make them enjoy and happy."

To get rid of Pacquiao overtraining, Fortune executed several means to make sure that Pacquiao would not overtrain. And Pacquiao's several attempts for additional training sessions were aborted.

?We in the training team, Buboy (chief trainer Buboy Fernandez), Nonoy (Neri) and Haplas (Roger Fernandez), have given him enough resting time the past two weeks in the camp. We even cancelled few training sessions for him to get ready to endure this last portion of the program,? Fortune said.

He added they didn?t consent to the senator's requests for additional rounds in sparring and other gym practices, which he usually does, obviously to make those watching him train enjoy.

Fortune disclosed that the team will be doing practically nothing a week before the fight except a few light workouts from Monday to Wednesday. Then they will review the game plan and amend them, if needed.

Oscar de la Hoya says Mexican fans will support his boxer Saul "Canelo" Alvarez against Gennady "GGG" Golovkin. "We obviously know that all of Mexico is behind Canelo Alvarez. Everywhere I go, everywhere we walk, the Mexican National is behind Canelo Alvarez, and I strongly believe that, look, Canelo going into the ring last, wanting to win those belts, for honor and pride," declared the Golden Boy boss over Boxing Scene.

De la Hoya added that they strongly feel that once that first bell rings we have a fight. "Whatever the negotiations were, we're extremely happy with and the fans are going to be even happier when they see a fight on September 15," De La Hoya said.

Alvarez assured the fans that this fight will be very different and everyone will see a very different Canelo. "And on that day they will realize many things, especially about Abel Sanchez, head trainer of Golovkin, who likes to talk a lot," announced Canelo, as quoted by World Boxing News.

"They've already talked far too much, thoroughly disrespecting me. So everything has totally changed and this fight will be very different."

Rajon Rondo was made to comment whether this Lakers team, with LeBron James, a bunch of young players and veterans signing one-year deals, can win an NBA title. ?You put any team, any group of players around LeBron James, as he has done [eight] straight times, he goes to the Finals,? Rondo said.

He said even with the Warriors adding DeMarcus Cousins and the Rockets with their usual lineup, he thinks they fit right up there in the mix. Rondo, whom the Lakers signed to a one-year $9-million deal, is not promising anything, but at the end of the day, he added they expect to win, and nothing else.
