Amir Khan salivating lucrative fight against Manny Pacquiao

British boxing star Amir Khan isn?t giving up on his desire to face Manny Pacquiao in the ring in what could be one of the most lucrative fights of his career.

Khan (32-4-0, 20 KOs), who is coming off a first round knockout win against Phil Lo Greco last April in Liverpool, England, has been nursing a sixth round knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez in 2016 at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

Before losing to Alvarez, Khan had a five-fight winning streak following his fourth round TKO loss to Danny Garcia in 2012 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Before his devastating loss to Garcia, the British Olympic silver medalist suffered a controversial split decision loss to Lamont Peterson in 2011.

On Sept. 8, Khan is set to face Colombian challenger Samuel Vargas (29-3-2, 14 KOs) in Birmingham, England. Vargas is the reigning WBA?NABA Welterweight Champion.

Khan has been pursuing Pacquiao relentlessly for a couple of years as he is well aware that boxing fans have been clamoring for the fight to happen. But he needs to beat his Colombian challenger first before a more serious talk can be initiated.

Khan is looking at end of the year for the Pacquiao fight to happen preferably in the United Kingdom.

"There are big names out there for me like Kell Brook and Manny Pacquiao. I want to be a champion again and want to fight Pacquiao,? Khan told BBC Sports.

"I have been chasing him a long time to get that fight. If winning this shows I want it more then it's all about him accepting that challenge," he added.

While Pacquiao would look more enticing revenue-wise if he wins in his come-back fight since his controversial loss to Jeff Horn last year, he would still be a good match for Khan even if he is not successful in his next fight.

Pacquiao is set to clash with Lucas Matthysse of Argentina on July 15 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur. At stake in the 12-round fight is Matthysse?s WBA welterweight title.

Pacquiao is slightly favored to win over the Argentine challenger but the Filipino fighting senator says he is the underdog and needs to train hard for his comeback fight.

The proposed Pacquiao-Khan fight negotiation has been ongoing in the past couple of years but a loss by either party prior to set schedules as well as disagreements between the promoters on fight terms have led to shelving of the fight.

Certainly, a win by both fighters in their upcoming fights will led to the final agreement between the promoters for the long-awaited Pacquiao-Khan fight.
