Country's chess masters compete as 2018 Alphaland Open chess tourney is on

Chess takes center stage as the 2018 Alphaland Open Chess championships gets underway on July 1, 2018 at the Activity Hall, 2nd Floor, Alphaland Makati Place, Ayala Avenue, corner Malugay Street, Makati City.

The cream of the country?s chess led by 13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., International Master Chito Garma, International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia, Fide Master Mari Joseph Turqueza, Fide Master Arden Reyes, Fide Master David Elorta and National Master Marc Christian Nazario will pit their wits and skills in the event organized by the Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) headed by it's founding president Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe.

"The Tournament is open to all titled and non-titled players," said Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe, who is also the treasurer of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by chairman/president Rep. Prospero "Butch" Arreza Pichay Jr. and secretary-general Rep. Abraham "Bambol" Ng Tolentino Jr.

"We expect very interesting and exciting games ahead in the 2018 Alphaland Open Chess championships," he added.

According to Atty. Orbe, the tournament will be played in 6 to 7-round Swiss System, depending of the number of participants using the 20 minutes plus five seconds delay format with the winner taking home P10,000 plus trophy, second place P5,000 plus trophy, third place P3,000 plus trophy, fourth place P2,000 and fifth place P2,000.

6th to 9th place will receive P1,000 each while 10th to 15th place will went home P500 each.

Category winners for the Top Female and Top Senior will get P500 each.

"Female Players can get more than one prizes," last word of Atty. Orbe.

Registration for the NCFP-sanctioned event is P500 on or before June 30, 2018 while P600 on-site registration.
